Grinding as a Duo – Poker and Partnership with Katie Lindsay

By Chris Moorman

Poker can be a solitary pursuit, hours spent alone at a screen or table, locked in mental warfare. But for Chris Moorman, the game has also been a shared journey. Together with his wife, fellow pro Katie Lindsay, they’ve carved out a unique path as poker’s most recognizable power couple.

So what’s it like sharing your passion and your profession with your partner?

Different Strengths, Shared Passion

“We bring different strengths to the table,” Moorman says. “Katie is fearless and has great instincts, especially in live settings. She’s helped me see the game differently.”

While they don’t always review every hand together, they support each other in less structured but more impactful ways. “Sometimes we’ll go over spots or talk through tricky situations, but we don’t force it. A lot of it happens organically.”

Competition vs. Support

What’s more impressive is how they balance competitiveness with genuine support. At the table, they’re both fierce, but away from it, they lift each other up.

“People ask if it’s hard when one of us is doing well and the other isn’t, but honestly, we’re just happy for each other. When Katie makes a big run, I’m genuinely excited, and vice versa.”

The Circuit as a Team

That emotional resilience is key when you’re traveling the circuit as a team. From Vegas to Barcelona, they’ve shared final tables, deep runs, and soul-crushing bust-outs.

“It helps that we understand exactly what the other is going through,” Moorman says. “The highs and lows of poker are intense, and having someone who really gets it makes a huge difference.”

Creating Space

They also manage to create space, not every event is a joint mission. “Sometimes one of us will go play while the other stays back. It’s about balance, not just poker 24/7.”

But does the relationship ever affect in-game decisions? Moorman laughs. “If we’re at the same table, we play each other like anyone else. Maybe with a bit more banter.”

Stability in Volatility

Despite poker’s notoriously volatile nature, their partnership adds a layer of stability. “Having Katie there grounds me. Win or lose, I always have someone in my corner.”

That support has been especially important during big series like the WSOP. After weeks of long days and little sleep, emotional fatigue can creep in.

Keeping Perspective

“When things aren’t going your way, it’s easy to get frustrated. But Katie helps me keep perspective. We remind each other why we started playing, for the love of the game.”

As for advice to other poker couples? Communication and boundaries.

Advice for Poker Couples

“Be honest about expectations,” Moorman says. “And don’t let poker take over everything. It’s important to disconnect and just be a couple, not just two grinders.”

Ultimately, their shared career is more than just convenient, it’s something they both deeply value.

A Rare Partnership

“To be able to travel, compete, and grow together, that’s rare,” he says. “We’re lucky. And we don’t take it for granted.”

For Moorman and Lindsay, poker isn’t just a game. It’s a journey they’re walking side by side, one hand, one country, one tournament at a time.
