Tigers Woods shines in Day 1 of the Masters

By Bob Garcia

MLB Opening Day was yesterday but most eyes of the sporting world were fixated on the Masters golf tournament in Augusta, Georgia, and specifically Tiger Woods.
Woods was the biggest of wildcards heading into the first round on Thursday. He was a longshot +7200 to win the event at the Americas Cardroom sportsbook, mostly because of his questionable physical condition after a near-fatal car accident in February 2021 and subsequent surgeries.
However, the 46-year-old put on a show, shooting a 1-under 71. That’s puts him at tied-for-10th place, just four shots behind the leader, Sungjae Im. Woods will tee-off today (Friday) at 1:41pm ET.
Woods was, of course, very happy with his results yesterday, especially considering this was his first tournament play since the accident. Here’s a quote from him (courtesy of ESPN):
“To finish in the red today after as long a layoff as I’ve had and not being in competitive golf [is good]. I know where to hit it [on] a lot of these pins, and I miss in the correct spots and give myself good angles. I did that all day, and I was able to make a few putts and end up in the red like I am now.”
If you are looking for betting opportunities regarding Woods and other golfers, please note that the Americas Cardroom sportsbook has lots of individual matchups odds for Round 2. For example, Woods is actually a +115 underdog in his head-to-head matchup with Kevin Na (-145).
