A video game allows gamers to “save” George Floyd from the police

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) recently unveiled a mobile video game called ‘Saving Freedom,’ which aims to prevent other people from the black community, such as African-American George Floyd, from losing their lives at the hands of US police, as happened on May 25, 2020.

Months after that happened, during an event dedicated to the production of digital content, Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naghdi (a high-ranking IRGC commander) announced a contest to create this video game, arguing that its influence could become global. According to various reports, the game consists of 30 levels in which a player must overcome obstacles that will become more difficult to overcome over time. Any player who succeeds in passing all the levels will effectively save Floyd’s life.

“Nowadays, the only place left for America to turn its defeats into victories is the internet. People inside the U.S. shout ‘death to America’ and burn the American flag. The U.S. domestic and foreign policies have failed. The public is increasingly becoming polarized in that country,” Naghdi said.

The new video game has been developed by members of the IT department of the Basij, an all-volunteer paramilitary force subordinate to the IRGC, a branch of Iran’s Army. Of course, the game began to receive widespread criticism, with many Twitter users saying it was seen as a blatant attempt to capitalize on the tragedy.

On May 25 of last year, Floyd lost his life at the hands of a police officer during his arrest in Minneapolis, sparking a series of protests across the country against racism and police brutality. Since then, the issue has been on the lips of many, and even many celebrities have called for this police brutality towards the black community to end once and for all.
