Moviegoers can now buy tickets and snacks at Regal Cinemas with crypto
By Bob Garcia
Regal Cinemas announced today that visitors can now purchase tickets and concessions using a variety of cryptocurrencies, digital dollars, stable coins, and digital tokens. The development was made possible through a partnership with Flexa. Effective immediately, moviegoers will be able to pay for admission, food, and beverages using digital payments including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Doge, USD Coin, DAI, Gemini Dollar, Chainlink, Cosmos, Basic Attention Token (BAT) and more.
Commenting on the deal, Regal Cinemas CMO Ken Thewes said, “As more of our customers demand digital asset solutions and safer payment methods, we are grateful to have found a partner in Flexa, a company that is revolutionizing digital payments with cutting-edge software and an innovative business platform.” He added, “This exciting partnership enables us to easily and seamlessly accept digital currencies — including dogecoin, stablecoins and bitcoin — across our theatre footprint in a simple and completely contactless way, providing our guests with the flexibility and safety they deserve as we embark on a new era.”
The Knoxville-based movie theater chain, which is a subsidiary of Cineworld, currently operates 500 locations with 7,000 screens across the country. There are currently Regal Cinemas in 42 states as well as the District of Columbia.
Regal Cinemas isn’t the first American cinema chain to jump on the crypto bandwagon. AMC started accepting Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, and Litecoin earlier this month. AMC also accepts Dogecoin for digital gift card purchases.
