Jameis Winston carted off the field in New Orleans Saints’ win against the Bucs

The Saints upset the Bucs, but not without losing their quarterback

Although it seemed like a daunting task for many, the New Orleans Saints did their best to come out on top in a tight battle against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While yesterday’s 36-27 victory was a cause of joy for many, the day did not end well after the team’s quarterback was forced to leave the field on a cart after suffering what appears to be a serious injury.

During the second quarter of the game, Winston had to leave the field after suffering a left knee injury. Sean Payton, the team’s coach, referred to the injury as “significant,” which could mean that the important player may not be included in games in the coming weeks and depending on how severe the ACL damage is, Winston could even be sidelined for the remainder of the season.

“I told him at halftime, we’re going to go out and win it for him,” said Saints defensive back P.J. Williams. Williams said it was quite pleasing to see Winston happy to get the win even though he wasn’t part of the final drives of the game. In a video that went viral on social media, Winston can be seen celebrating while clutching his crutches in a postgame locker room party.

“This was tough,” Williams said. “He worked so hard this offseason, just this season. That’s one of my best friends. To see him go down, it’s tough.” According to reports, on one play, Winston’s knee buckled awkwardly, and he fell to the ground after attempting a jump shot on the turf. The player required assistance to get off the field and, shortly after, was carried from the sideline to the locker room.

Payton added, “I think it’s significant. He felt something, and he’s on crutches now. I don’t want to say until I have a chance to talk with the doctors. When he went up and then had to go back down, you were a little concerned.”
