Doyle Brunson makes an appearance at the WSOP series

The original poker GOAT comes out of retirement to take a seat at the WSOP felt

Last weekend closed with a big appearance at the 2021 World Series of Poker (WSOP). Doyle Brunson, one of the most iconic figures in the poker community, decided to leave his house to gamble some money on Sunday, and many fans were able to enjoy his great magic with the cards, maybe for the last time.

The 88-year-old poker pro was spotted for the first time all series on Day 1 of the $1,000 no-limit Hold’em super seniors event. While it’s true that the ten-time gold bracelet winner of this prestigious event announced via Twitter in the middle of this year that he planned to attend a few events during the year, it wasn’t until now that he made an appearance even though the series has been on the schedule for about a month. The last time the “Godfather of Poker” was seen at a WSOP event was in 2018 when he placed sixth in the $10,000 no-limit Hold’em 2-7 single draw championship taking home $46,963 for his deep run.

As sad as it may sound to many who have been loyal followers of the poker master’s career, he had tweeted before making his appearance that it will most likely be the last time he will be seen sitting at a WSOP table. Brunson once again opted to register late for the event, entering the super seniors in the sixth level of Day 1.

Although the player has been accustomed to the extensive processes that a championship can involve, the Godfather of Poker has made it clear in several interviews that at this point in life he said the grueling nature and length of poker tournaments is one of the main reasons why he has not been as active as he once was. Perhaps this farewell was not the best of all, as his participation did not extend beyond the hour. Brunson was sent home when he went all-in from the button in his last ten big blinds and Jana Vondach paid in the big blind.
