Sony continues its acquisition spree with purchase of Bluepoint Games

Sony announced yesterday that it is buying Bluepoint Games. Financial details about the deal were not disclosed at press time.
The Austin, Texas company is best known for its 2020 action role playing game Demon’s Souls for the Sony PlayStation 5. Other Bluepoint Games titles include Blast Factor, God of War Collection, The ICO & Shadow of the Colossus Collection, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, Flower, Titanfall, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, Gravity Rush Remastered, and Shadow of the Colossus.
Speaking about the deal, Bluepoint Games President Marco Thrush said, “We’re thrilled to have officially joined PlayStation Studios!” He added, ” PlayStation has such an iconic gaming catalog and for us there’s been nothing better than to bring some of gaming’s masterpieces to new players. Becoming a part of PlayStation Studios, empowers our team to raise the quality-bar even further and create even more impactful experiences for the PlayStation community.”
Sony’s latest acquisition isn’t a huge shock to video game fans. In June, PlayStation Japan inadvertently posted an image alluding to the deal when it tweeted that it was purchasing the game developer Housemarque.
Bluepoint Games has been operating for 15 years and boasts a workforce of 70 employees. It is not yet known if Bluepoint games will continue remastering old titles or start developing new concepts under the auspices of Sony and PlayStation Studios.
