Zimmer favored to be first NFL coach fired
By Bob Garcia
The Minnesota Vikings went 7-9 last year, missing the playoffs and that has their coach Mike Zimmer firmly on the hot seat. He is the +460 favorite at the Americas Cardroom sportsbook for the 1st Coach to be Fired odds.
Zimmer is entering his eighth year with the team. Last year’s losing record was their first since his inaugural season in 2014. Minnesota has a lot of talented players on their roster, although do lack depth, and a slow start could mean that Zimmer gets an early hook.
Denver’s Vic Fangio is next on the odds list at +550. He made a safe move by naming veteran Teddy Bridgewater the starting quarterback over Drew Lock. If the choice was reversed, there’s a good chance he would be favored in these odds.
Dallas’ Mike McCarthy (+636) and Chicago’s Matt Nagy (+679) are next on the list. I believe Dallas will bounce back and win the NFC East, so I don’t think McCarthy is a great value at these odds. Nagy has also bought himself some time (one would think) after drafting rookie quarterback Justin Fields. Fields will start the season as the backup behind Andy Dalton but could be inserted quickly.
Arizona’s Kliff Kingsbury (+680) could be a value pick as there are high expectations surrounding his team and they play in the very tough NFC West division.
