While summer is mostly over, gamers have something to look forward to next week. Sony announced today that it will be hosting the PS5 PlayStation Showcase on Thursday, September 9th at 4pm ET or 1pm PT. This annual event is expected to reveal what the company has been up to and where it’s headed.
In a blog post, PlayStation Senior Director Sid Shuman said, “You’ve been awfully patient, and we thank you for that. And now we’re looking forward to showing you what we’ve been working on.” He went on to remark, ” The Showcase will weigh in at around 40 minutes and include updates from PlayStation Studios and some of the industry’s most imaginative developers, for games releasing this holiday and beyond. And stick around after the presentation to get more updates from some of the studio teams featured in the Showcase.”
Everybody can watch the event live or on demand by visiting twitch.tv/playstation, youtube.com/playstation, or playstation.com/showcase on Thursday. And although viewers shouldn’t expect to see the PlayStation VR headset that’s in development, the showcase will feature lots of upcoming games for both big and small developers. Exciting titles that are on the release calendar including Horizon Forbidden West and Bethesda’s Deathloop.
There is much speculation on social media that Sony will finally release a system software update on September 9th. In July, the company launched a PS5 beta that offers M.2 SSD expansion support and lots of user experience enhancements.
