Suns favored in NBA Finals Game 1 and series
By Bob Garcia
The NBA Finals get underway tonight (Tuesday) and the Phoenix Suns are the favorite in both the Game 1 odds and the series. A lot of that has to do with the injury to Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Phoenix is a 6-point home favorite for Game 1 at the Americas Cardroom sportsbook. The total is 219.5 points. Tip-off will come at 9pm ET on ABC. Antetokounmpo is listed as doubtful after hyperextending his knee in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals against Atlanta.
Phoenix has the homecourt advantage after finishing with a 51-21 record in the regular season. Milwaukee was 46-26.
The Suns are also -200 to win the NBA Championship, while Milwaukee is +170. The latest injury news about Antetokounmpo is that he’s making “good progress” and most experts expect him to come back at some point this series, although he will almost certainly not be 100%. The Bucks would have likely been a small favorite if Antetokounmpo was completely healthy.
Note the sportsbook also has an “Exact Series” prop. The three most favored scenarios are the Suns winning in seven games (+365), then five (+380) and then six (+400). The most favored scenario of the Bucks winning is in six games (+570), with that Game 6 in Milwaukee.
Note that Milwaukee has not won the NBA title since 1971 when they had the incredible tandem of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Oscar Robertson. Phoenix has never won the title since joining the league in 1968, so something is going to give this series.
