Anthony Davis questionable for Tuesday night contest
By Bob Garcia
The Los Angeles Lakers have a huge Game 5 in their playoff series at the Phoenix Suns tonight and star big man Anthony Davis is listed as questionable, although that seems optimistic. The series is tied at 2-2 with the teams each splitting the first two games at home.
Tip-off for this contest is at 10pm ET, the final game in a tripleheader. The Lakers are a 5-point road underdog at the Americas Cardroom sportsbook with a total of 207.5. The spread was +4 on Monday. The Suns are now the series favorite at -155 with Los Angeles +135.
The first game on the docket tonight is Boston (+12.5) at Brooklyn at 7:30pm ET. The Nets are up 3-1 and looking to close out the series. They covered the first two games at home and this game will be extra personal for Kyrie Irving after getting a water bottle thrown at him in Game 4 in Boston. The other contest is Portland (+2) at Denver at 9pm ET with that series tied 2-2.
Davis strained his groin late in the first half of Sunday’s Game 4 at home and didn’t return. The Suns outscored the Lakers 27-15 in the third quarter and held on for a 100-92 victory. If Davis can’t go tonight, the team could continue to struggle to find secondary scoring help for LeBron James, with point guard Dennis Schroder really being forced to step up.
Phoenix has its own injury problem as point guard Chris Paul is gutting through a shoulder issue. He still led the way with 18 points and nine assists last game and he’s not needed as much on the offensive end for his team to win with Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton around (45.1 PPG combined this series).
