The eSports organization will operate out of the University of Kentucky
The Gen.G Tigers announced yesterday morning that they will now have a new location for their second season in the NBA 2K League, the University of Kentucky (UK). To date, the Gen.G Tigers are one of 23 teams in the NBA 2K League and, although the eSports team is originally from Shanghai, the pandemic caused by COVID-19 has made it impossible for the players to travel and play in their hometown for some time now. Their second season is scheduled to start on Wednesday of next week and they are currently the only team that is not actually affiliated with an NBA team as such.
About two years ago, UK decided to partner with this team and have since been able to build a state-of-the-art eSports facility on campus, the University of Kentucky Federal Credit Union’s Esports Lounge at The Cornerstone, something that certainly adds value to them. According to reports, Gen G. will now also have a free pass to the UK’s campus amenities, where they can enjoy great restaurants and, of course, the recreation center facilities.
Chris Park, CEO of Gen.G, said, “We have forged an incredible global relationship with the University of Kentucky, so it’s only natural that our 2K League team trains and competes on the campus of the nation’s winningest college basketball program. UK is a vibrant community with state-of-the-art facilities, and our players are honored to be the first professional eSports team in residence at a major university.”
The eSports community is undoubtedly seeing tremendous growth on this campus, and now they will have the opportunity to interact with a team that could lead them down the path to success.
