Rapoport Tweet could provide value in NFL Draft Odds

It’s officially NFL Draft week with the first round getting underway this Thursday, April 29th! And one of the biggest items of interest is who will the San Francisco 49ers take with the No. 3 overall pick?

Here are the current odds at the Americas Cardroom sportsbook.

Who will be the third overall pick in the NFL Draft?

Mac Jones, Alabama (-340)
Trey Lance, North Dakota State (+233)
Justin Fields, Ohio State (+307)
Zach Wilson, BYU (+5500)

All four players in this prop are quarterbacks and for good reason. San Fran paid a heavy price to move up from No. 12, including surrendering two future No. 1 selections. Note this prop really comes down to three players as Zach Wilson is almost a shoo-in to be picked by the NY Jets at No. 2.

Now, there is some breaking news from yesterday that came from the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. He is saying that San Fran could be down to two players.

“As the #49ers close in on their decision of which QB to take at No. 3, sources say they are down to two prospects — and the belief is those two are #Bama QB Mac Jones and #NDSU QB Trey Lance. Several sources say the focus does appear to have shifted to those two.”

If you believe Rapoport’s sources, then that means Trey Lance has a lot of value at his current +233 odds and Justin Fields does not at +307. Lance has a great amount of upside but is considered rawer than Fields. However, that could work out if San Francisco decides to keep Jimmy Garoppolo for this year, while giving Lance time to learn from the bench.

And while I think Jones is the most likely selection overall, I’m staying away from him at these costly -340 odds.
