New casino back on track, pleasing North Bay poker players
By Bob Garcia
Work is once again underway on North Bay’s new casino, known as Cascades. And while this is certainly great news for poker players, no firm opening day has been set due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are resuming construction starting today,” commented Rob Mitchell, Director of Communications for Gateway Casinos. “We are going to complete the casino there but I can’t give you a firm opening day.”
With warmer weather now in the forecast, an inspection will take place to determine how the structure has weathered the cold Canadian climate.
“We’ve poured the floor and did all the rough-ins last November then we put up the boarding for the winter months and closed the site. It is our intention to complete the facility as planned. The decision has been made to go forward with it and we’re cautiously optimistic we are going to build it out as planned.”
The casino mirrors Cascades Casino in Chatham, in terms of both layout and game offerings.
“It’s a really beautiful casino and it’s been hugely successful for us,” notes Mitchell. “It has a great patio, a fantastic bar on the gaming floor call The Summit that stretches the entire length of the gaming floor and looks down on the table games and roulettes and it’s a really, really nice spot. I think it will be great and extremely successful. People are really going to like it.”
While Cascades Casino in Chatham doesn’t have a poker room, it does offer Mississippi Stud Poker, Ultimate Texas Hold’em, and 3-card Poker to poker fans, not to mention scores of video poker options.
