The sunglass manufacturer’s eSports future looks bright as it takes its first step forward
It is almost impossible not to recognize Seth “Scump” Abner if you are an eSports follower, and Oakley seems to be aware of how great this player is. Scump is big in the Call of Duty realm, and Oakley is stepping into the eSports community by sponsoring “The King” going forward.
This partnership is definitely one of the best ever seen in the industry, and the fact that one of the best brands for sports and innovation is recognizing eSports stars with great performance is for sure a step in the right direction. Both Oakley and Scump are making a big move out of this partnership and it is just the beginning. Now it will be common to see Scump wearing Oakley exclusive glasses during all his competitive matches and streams.
This new partnership could bring many benefits for esports fans and players, but this hasn’t been the first time the well-recognized brand has decided to put all its effort in order to improve the gaming industry. Oakley’s global marketing director, Caio Amato, said, “This is another exciting day for Oakley as we level up our commitment to gaming. The addition of Scump to Team Oakley will help us form a deeper, more meaningful connection with the gaming community.”
This is a first for Oakley, but its sponsorship of an eSports personality is a great fit for the company. Amato adds, “The fierce loyalty of fans and followers of gaming is an attribute we strongly admire and aspire to strategically build through partnerships such as this. At the same time, we aim to shine a brighter light on the incredible amount of mental and physical prowess exhibited by professional gamers to members of the Oakley community who may be new to the sport.”
