Utah Jazz make move in Western Conference odds
By Bob Garcia
The Utah Jazz haven’t made the NBA Finals since 1996 when Karl Malone and John Stockton still laced them up, but that could change this year if the Western Conference odds are any indication.
Utah (+445) is third in the conference odds at the Americas Cardroom sportsbook, only trailing the L.A. Lakers (+105) and Clippers (+270). Denver is way back in fourth at +1465.
Note all these odds were before Utah’s 114-96 win at the Clippers on Wednesday night. Utah has now won nine straight games and an incredible 20-of-21. Note that the NBA Future Odds will be updated later today, although they should not change too much.
Utah has the best record in the conference at 24-6, two games ahead of the Lakers and 3.5 over the Clippers. The Lakers were dealt a recent blow when Anthony Davis was ruled out a few weeks with a calf injury. He’s expected to be healthy for the playoffs, which is why the Lakers’ conference odds are still strong.
The Jazz have six players who average double-digits in points and are a deep team overall. However, star power usually prevails in the playoffs and while Donovan Mitchell (24.2 PPG) is a very good player, he could be battling duo’s like the Lakers’ Davis/LeBron James, Clippers’ Kawhi Leonard and Paul George and even Denver’s Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray.
Here’s a look at the Western Conference favorites.
1.Los Angeles Lakers (+105)
2.Los Angeles Clippers (+270)
3.Utah Jazz (+445)
4.Denver Nuggets (+1465)
5.Phoenix Suns (+1800)
6.Dallas Mavericks (+2650)
7.Portland Trail Blazer (+3300)
8.Golden State Warriors (+4500)
