The first AEW video game is still in development and no release date is known
During an interview with TalkSport, Kenny Omega said that AEW was still working on its first video game, and the release date is still uncertain. The wrestling-based game will be available on consoles such as PlayStation and Xbox, and an earlier trailer for the debut game was revealed by AEW back in November of the last year.
The AEW executive vice president stated that they are still working on the game development, and they’re hoping to release the game in the first quarter of 2022. He added, “I wouldn’t say years [away] plural. I would say in a perfect world, give it about a year’s time. We’re working really hard and we’re lucky to have two teams, one in America and one in Japan, working on this almost around the clock. We do know that time is of the essence, we can’t let this sit around forever and people want a game like yesterday [laughs] so, we do want to release something as soon as we feel it’s ready and representative of what our brand should be and what will make fans happy.”
Omega noted that they don’t want to rush and therefore delivering a bad launch, such as the case of Cyberpunk or Street Fighter 5, they’re clearly looking to provide a product that will be fun for the players. He also explained that if they go to a new arena, add a new pay-per-view, or sign someone new, they would like to then add it into the game after its release so that way the fans and players can feel up to date with their roster and the growth of the promotion.
