Gonzaga the favorite in college basketball title odds

The Gonzaga Bulldogs have been one of the best teams in college basketball for many years now, but haven’t been able to get over the hump and win a national title.

Will this be the year this West Coast Conference team finally cuts down the nets? The latest AP Rankings were just released Monday and undefeated Gonzaga (22-0) received 60 of the 64 first-place votes. The remaining four went to Baylor out of the Big 12

A quick look at the national title odds at the Americas Cardroom sportsbook see Gonzaga and Baylor in the first two spots. After that are three straight Big Ten teams in Michigan, Iowa and Illinois. You can see the top-10 favorites listed below:

Gonzaga has had the same coach since 1999 in Mark Few, winning at least 23 games every year. They did make the national title game in 2017 (losing 71-65 to North Carolina) but that was their only Final Four appearance. They were ranked No. 2 in the final poll last year, but March Madness was cancelled due to Covid.

Critics point to Gonzaga’s relatively easy regular season schedule as a reason why they’ve never been able to win the whole thing. They’ve also lacked the superstar players of traditional powerhouses like Duke, North Carolina and Kentucky.

Here’s a look at the March Madness favorites.

1. Gonzaga Bulldogs (+218)
2. Baylor Bears (+320)
3. Michigan Wolverines (+725)
4. Iowa Hawkeyes (+1550)
5. Illinois Fighting Illini (+1600)
6. Villanova Wildcats (+1650)
7. Alabama Crimson Tide (+1850)
8. Ohio State Buckeyes (+2000)
9. Florida State Seminoles (+2200)
10. Houston Cougars (+2450)
