The award candidates have been selected and the winners will be announced on December 10
The Game Awards has its final list of nominees for this year’s top video games. Over 95 individuals, including media outlets, influencers and more, helped create the list, which includes games, content developers, creative teams and eSports professionals. Video game fans are able to get in on the excitement, as well, now being able to cast their votes via The Game Awards website. The final selections will be announced on December 10, when the annual Video Game Awards ceremony will be held.
There are a lot of top video games expected to be in the final running, and the winner will be hard to select. Among the candidates for Game of the Year are Animal Crossing: New Horizons, DOOM Eternal, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Ghost of Tsushima, Hades, and The Last of Us Part II. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice took first place last year after it won over Death Stranding, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Control, The Outer Worlds, and Resident Evil 2.
The Last Of Us Part II has received the most nominations, picking nine ahead of fan voting. Hades came in second with eight, followed by Ghost of Tsushima with seven and Final Fantasy VII Remake with six. Sony Interactive Entertainment developers deserve a pat on the back, and probably a bonus, as the company picked up 22 nominations, the most of any company this year.
Other categories include Best Score and Music, which finds DOOM Eternal (Mick Gordon), Final Fantasy VII Remake (Nobuo Uematsu, Masahi Hamauzu, Mitsuto Suzuki), Hades (Darren Korb), Ori and the Will of the Wisps (Gareth Coker) and The Last of Us Part II (Gustavo Santaolala, Mac Quale) in the running. There is also, among others, the Best Art Direction award, which includes Final Fantasy VII Remake (Square Enix), Ghost of Tsushima (Sucker Punch/SIE), Hades (Supergiant Games), Ori and the Will of the Wisps (Moon Studios/Xbox Game Studios) and The Last of Us Part II (Naughty Dog/SIE).
