Betting Pick: Houston Texans vs Pittsburgh Steelers
By Bob Garcia
The schedule makers have done no favors for the Houston Texans this year. The team has its third very tough test in a row when they travel to the Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday at 1pm ET in a Week 3 NFL contest.
Pittsburgh opened up as a 3.5-point favorite at the Americas Cardroom sportsbook. It has now been driven up to -4. The total is 45 points.
There are no fans being allowed at Heinz Field this week, which is obviously an advantage for Houston as Pittsburgh has some of the loudest fans in the league.
Pittsburgh (2-0 SU, 1-1 ATS) has won its first two games, 26-16 at the Giants and 26-21 at home over Denver. The Steelers failed to cover the 6-point spread last week as Denver played tough to the end despite losing quarterback Drew Lock to injury.
Pittsburgh’s own quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, has shown that he’s healthy so far. The team has enough offensive firepower (14th in the league in yards) to go along with one of the best defenses in the league (tied-for-2nd in yards allowed). That makes them a tough opponent every week.
No team has had a tougher opening schedule than the Texans (0-2 SU and ATS). They’ve faced arguably the two best teams in the NFL in Kansas City and Baltimore. Last week was more disappointing as it was at home, a 33-16 loss to Baltimore at 7.5-point dogs.
Coach Bill O’Brien was already on the hot seat before the season began, making controversial offseason moves like trading star receiver DeAndre Hopkins to Arizona.
I think Houston keeps this game close into the third quarter, with Pittsburgh pulling away after that.
Pick: Pittsburgh -4
