Evil Geniuses breaks partnership with Dota 2 caster due to sexual harassment allegations
GranDGranT has had several allegations of sexual harassment lodged against him in the past 24 hours
Another case of sexual harassment in the eSports space has been surfing around the Internet, and it comes directly from the eSports scene. Several women have alleged that Grant “GranDGranT” Harris, a well-known commentator and streamer, has sexually harassed them. For the last 24 hours, the Dota 2 community has been flooded with multiple threads about Grant’s actions in which a pattern of alleged inappropriate conduct was put in evidence. Therefore, one of the largest eSports organization, Evil Geniuses, has released its Dota 2 commentator and streamer due to these allegations.
“Effective immediately, Grant ‘GranDGranT’ Harris has been released and is no longer a member of Evil Geniuses,” wrote the team in a tweet. “We have a zero-tolerance workplace policy, and take any accusation of harassment, or a violation of our policies handbook, seriously.” Grant signed with Evil Geniuses as a streamer and commentator due to the popularity of his voice in the North American region of Dota 2. Before his period with the team, and even during some time with the organization, he reportedly harassed several people.
The first report came from a Twitter user named “cofactorstrudel,” who brought to light one incident that happened at the after-party of The International 2017. This woman asserts that, during that night, Grant wouldn’t let go of her, so she had to force him to let go. There were some other more serious allegations reported against the caster, as well.
Former coach and analyst Anthony “scant” Hodgson spoke with former commentator Natalie “LlamaDownUnder,” who said that his harassment was so intense that she decided to leave the Dota 2 scene. “Grant repeatedly harassed Llama to the point where she sought a restraining order,” Hodgson said. “She took him to court, and after several years of protracted legal proceedings, the court found that Grant did indeed harass and defame her. He bullied her, harassed her, and he ended her job.”
