SEGA said to have news that will “rile up” the video game industry
The video game developer is expected to have a big announcement next week
The Japanese multinational video game developer and publisher SEGA has been teasing the gaming community by announcing some “revolutionary” news the company is dropping next week. Apparently, this big announcement will be made in the next issue of the popular Japanese magazine, Famitsu. This news coincides with the company’s 60th anniversary and is on par with Sony releasing the first official details for its new generation game console PlayStation 5. However, the exact nature of the announcement still isn’t known.
The rumor was started by Japanese technology journalist Zenji Nishikawa, who announced important news coming on June 4. He said first that this news will “rile up the games industry.” Apparently, his next story contains an exclusive announcement about a “game company that everyone loves.” Later on, the reporter confirmed that everything he said had to do with SEGA.
The first information came in a post by Gematsu, which states that Nishikawa-san said, “My column in next week’s issue of Famitsu is crazy. I got a huge scoop…it’s a world premiere article. And an exclusive. It may not be Nikkei or Weekly Bunshun, but if you want to know if it’s a scoop that’s big…it totally is!” It seems to be the reporter interviewed “a certain company’s executive and technical staff” who confirmed what’s coming, which he claims to be “really revolutionary…really, it’s a revolution.”
Nobody is certain about what the news will be, but ResetEra fans have spent some time speculating on this matter. Some are wondering if it is the long-rumored acquisition that was pending between SEGA and Microsoft based on what Xbox boss Phil Spencer said once before. He said that the company was looking to acquire a Japanese studio and added that SEGA would have been a great option.
