It’s not often that I recommend a -200 favourite as the top bet of the day, in fact, if memory serves me right, this is only the second time I’ve done so in this blog. However, today the St. Louis Blues will be taking on the Anaheim Ducks as part of hockey’s Golden Stat – which is defined as an away favourite playing a team on the 2nd half of a back-to-back. Under this scenario, teams have gone 92-41 over the past 3 seasons, including 23-12 so far this season, good for 20% ROI.
As for this specific matchup, Anaheim has only managed to go 16-20-4 in conference games while putting up the fourth-most penalty minutes in the NHL, while St. Louis has put up a blistering 28-11-6 record against their Western Conference counterparts en route to the second best record in the league.
Meanwhile, the Blues were able to take down this very same Ducks team 4-1 the last time the two met back in January while outshooting Anaheim 34-21 and thoroughly dominating the game end to end.
So although the past is not necessarily a predictor of the future in sports, both the analytics and historic results appear to indicate there is value to be found on the road team in this one, be it as an independent bet or as part of a two-team parlay.
That’s it for today, bet safe and best of luck out there.
