Over the past two seasons, the recipe for beating the Milwaukee Bucks has been as simple in theory as it is difficult in practice: clog the paint while preventing a barrage of open 3s on defense, and make an above-average number of 3-pointers when on offense. Today that tall task falls on the Los Angeles Lakers who will look to contain the reigning MVP in a nationally-televised potential NBA Finals matchup.
The good news for Lakers fans is that they definitely have the size necessary to slow down Giannis with McGee, Howard, AD, and Lebron all able to make things difficult on the inside for opposing players. LA also has also done reasonably well defending against the 3, ranking 9th in the league. However, when it comes to the rest of the top 10 in that department, the Bucks have already beat the Raptors (twice), Clippers (twice), Thunder (twice), Rockets, Celtics and even the Lakers themselves. Clearly being a good three-point-defending team is not enough in and of itself to gain an edge over Milwaukee, which brings us to the Lakers’ glaring shortcoming in this matchup.
Of the Bucks eight losses with Giannis on the court, six have come against a top-10 3p-shooting team. The Lakers, however, have struggled mightily in this department, ranking 15th in 3p% and just 19th at home. That’s why, having studied both teams extensively over the course of the season, unless Milwaukee has an off-night from behind the arc, I struggle to see how an LA team that ranks 21st in 3s made per game will keep pace with a Bucks team ranked 4th in the same statistic. And with Milwaukee ranking 2nd in road wins and 5th in ATS road wins, I’ll happily take the points on the league’s best team and let the chips fall where they may. In fact, I’ll likely be doubling and even tripling down on the Bucks by adding them to a two-team teaser (thereby moving the line to Bucks +7) and perhaps playing a 1H ML bet as well.
That’s it for today, bet safe and best of luck out there!
The Milwaukee Bucks are 10-4 ATS over their past 14
The Milwaukee Bucks are 11-2 over their past 13
The Los Angeles Lakers are are 11-2 over their past 13
