The Hollywood celebrity could play the part of Dirk the Daring
It looks like Ryan Reynolds really enjoys giving life to characters from video games, he did so for Pikachu in Detective Pikachu as well as playing the main character in Free Guy. This time, Netflix is producing a movie based on the video game Dragon’s Lair and it looks like Reynolds might be getting the role of Dirk the Daring, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Negotiations for the movie rights took nearly a year for Netflix and the writing of the movie will be done by Dan and Kevin Hageman, who wrote The Lego Movie. This video game will be produced by its creators, Don Bluth and Gary Goldman, alongside Roy Lee, who produced The Departed. The intention of bringing this video game to the movie scene started back in 2015 when both Bluth and Goldman raised over $650,000 to create a movie concept that it could be a pitch to studios.
Bluth and Goldman have been dedicated to animations, having made the movies All Dogs Go to Heaven, The Land Before Time and Anastasia, among many others. Dragon’s Lair follows a knight along his quest to save Princess Daphne from an evil dragon and a wizard. Back in 2015, the duo of producers spoke to GameSpot about these plans of bringing Dragon’s Lair to the big screen, indicating that they specifically discussed never wanting to create a “sexualized” version of Daphne.
If the movie goes forward with Reynolds, it will be the third time he works with Netflix in a movie. He was in Six Underground and Red Notice, which is still pending its release. The movie is set to start in July, although it is unknown if the coronavirus outbreak will impact its filming, compounded by the fact that there is no director yet.
