Arc World Tour 2020 forced to be called off due to the coronavirus
Not all eSports competitions are ready to move to an online format to avoid COVID-19
There were some great events scheduled for this year in the eSports scenario and, even though they are played solely from a computer, official competitions often involve contenders facing each other in arenas with thousands of fans giving their support to their favorite players. That means that, due to the coronavirus outbreak, many scheduled events are being postponed or canceled, and, just recently, the Arc System Works (ASW) announced the cancelation of the remainder of the Arc World Tour 2020.
There was some resistance from Arc System Works in suspending the event all at once, so for the last month, the organization started canceling and postponing several events. The ASW will still be present at other events but officially, fans can remove the World Tour structure from their calendar, as it has been completely shut down for this year. “Due to the global pandemic of COVID-19, we have decided to cancel ARC WORLD TOUR 2020 in its entirety,” said the Twitter post with the announcement. “The health of our competitors, staff members and community members are our top priority. Thank you for your understanding.”
Besides Arc World Tour 2020, there were other popular events for eSports fans and competitors around the world that were also canceled, such as ARCREVO Japan 2020, ARCREVO Korea 2020 and all DAREDEVIL events. Apparently, ARCREVO and Arc World Tour 2020 Finals might be holding independent events later in the year. “The health of our competitors, staff members and community members are our top priority,” AWS said. “This decision also comes in the face of increased difficulty in facilitating a fair competition throughout the tour. We regret to inform those who have been eagerly anticipating this tour of its cancellation. We thank you for your understanding.”
