3 Jackpot Poker Hacks
With Americas Cardroom bringing the Million Dollar Jackpot back to the Jackpot SNG games, I thought it would be a great time to cover some strategy concepts to help you maximize your longevity in the games while awaiting that life-changing spin.
After putting in thousands upon thousands of three-handed hyperturbo games, here are three of the most profitable situations I’ve found to pick up chips without a made hand. Just make sure to note that these plays are primarily meant to be made against new opponents, as their effectiveness is greatly reduced the more often an opponent sees you make them.
1. Anytime your opponent limps blind-versus-blind and then checks twice, fire blindly on the turn and river with all your air. I can count the number of times I’ve seen someone limp the small-blind, check twice and call two bets on a single hand, so unless the board is completely conducive to a two-street hero-call with third pair (which in my experience is the best case scenario for your opponent when taking such a line), fire away with reckless abandon and marvel at the effectiveness of this play.
2. Donkbet your draws/floats on the turn (aka lead out after check-calling the flop) when bottom pair pairs. Most players cbet too loosely on the flop and don’t donkbet-bluff often enough themselves so will often give you more credit for a hand than they should. Plus, if you’re check-calling the right types of draws/floats on the flop, you’ll still have plenty of equity in the pot when when your opponent calls your donk and will often gain even more chips with both your bluffs and value-bets on the river.
3. When your opponent donkbets the minimum on the river after check/calling either one or two streets, jam your entire stack over the top with all your air. This type of lead from an opponent, particularly at the lower limits, is almost universally a blocker-bet hoping for a cheap showdown with a weak hand and has almost zero value behind it. Sure every now and again you’re going to get hero-called by third pair and look a little foolish with your busted draw, but if poker is a battle of ranges and you’ve already shown strength by betting either one or two streets, it’s nearly impossible for your opponent to have enough of a value range in a check/call, check/call, min donkbet line to justify calling your jam.
