The WSOP Mystery Bounty Event is causing a stir among poker players
The quirky WSOP event appears to be a hit with the poker community
Even though much of poker is played with the same structure, poker events engage players by coming up with creative structures and a new event just announced by the World Series of Poker (WSOP) is shaking things up already. This year’s $1,500 Mystery bounty event will take place on June 28, and one of the extra prizes will give $250,000 to one lucky player. This will be a No-Limit Texas Hold’em bounty freezeout tournament, and, even though all participants will have a bounty on their heads, one hundred of those bounties come with much higher values.
For this tournament, the highest value for a bounty will be $250,000, followed by three more that are worth $100,000 each. Other bounties out of the one hundred will also see six bounties worth $25,000 each and another ten will be worth $10,000 each. Additionally, the other 80 will be worth $2,500 each. That represents an impressive $1 million guaranteed for this WSOP special event only for bounties.
“I think this is going to be a huge success,” Adam Schwarz, co-host of the DAT Poker Podcast said. “This will drive a lot of casual traffic to this tournament.” Adds Terrence Chan, “It’s going to be a Gong Show. Bounty tournaments are just super fun in general, so this is just double extra mega fun if they do it right.”
The rest of the bounties will have a standard price of $100 each, but it is not yet clear the structure sheet that will be used or how the rake structure is going to work. It hasn’t been released how the bounty structure will affect the normal payout though according to WSOP, the same top 15% of the finishers will be paid as usual.
