Phil Galfond ready to give it another try in the Galfond Challenge
The poker pro and founder of Run It Once will renew his competition with Venividi
After taking a more than needed break when he suffered an appalling losing streak against online poker contender Venividi a couple of weeks ago, it seems to be that Phil Galfond is ready to give it another shot. He decided to suspend the scheduled remaining games on February 11, so he could take some time away and think about what was happening with his head and reflect on the challenge. However, Galfond’s back and he just published through the Run It Once poker online blog, “I’m gonna keep playing.”
By the time he decided to suspend the game, he had lost nearly $990,000 in only 9,900 hands. The challenge is supposed to go on for 25,000 hands, so, if he would have continued like that, he was risking losing a lot more than just his confidence. Even though he confirmed the decision to now continue the challenge against Venividi, there weren’t any more details about the date in which the next session will resume.
Earlier in the month, when he first announced he was taking time off the challenge, he did say that games would resume after March 1. Also, to communicate his decision, he shared further details in a tweet, “I needed some time away from the first “GalfondChallenge” match more than I’d realized. After mentally resetting & a lot of careful contemplation, I was able to make a tough decision with a clear head. Thanks for your patience!”
The current challenge with Venividi includes 25,000 hands of approximately $110/$220 pot-limit Omaha. It also includes a side bet of $110,000 from Venividi and $220,000 for Galfond.
