Playing The Market – Portland Trailblazers Vs LA Clippers Betting Breakdown
In a classic buy-low/sell-high situation, the Los Angeles Clippers – who came into the season as the betting favorites to win the title – will be taking on a Portland Trailblazers team that was already being labelled as a bust by some of the talking-heads literally just 10 days ago. Now, after signing Carmelo Anthony and reeling off three straight wins against subpar competition, Portland comes into this game as “only” 9-point underdog. I say only because although it’s by no means a small spread, it is at least half as small as it would have been had this game taken place before the Blazers beat the 10th place Thunder and took two games from the 6-win Chicago Bulls (who are pretty much just buying time until Jim Boylen gets fired). At the same time, the Clippers barely squeezed out a victory against the lowly Grizzlies and lost to the reeling San Antonio Spurs before finally spanking the Wizards by 25. All in all very close to a perfect storm to lead the public into thinking this one won’t be a blowout.
And while it might not, it definitely should, with Melo being no match for the defensive juggernauts that are Kawhi and Paul George, Hassan Whiteside continuing to preform below expectations, and Lillard still yet to return to the superstar level we’ve become accustomed to after missing a couple of games with back spasms. And with the Clippers holding the 5th biggest margin of victory in the NBA (Portland ranks 18th), this one feels like the right spot to sell high on the Melo hype and back one of the most stacked teams we’ve seen in recent years, be it by playing the spread or teasing the line down to a more manageable -3 with your other favorite play of the day.
That’s it for today, bet safe and best of luck out there!
