Cameron Jordan, who plays as a defensive end for the New Orleans Saints, is being honored by the USAA. He was nominated by his team to get the annual Salute to Service Award. Along with Jordan, 32 other nominees will be opting to get this recognition for their services in favor of the military service.
The USAA, along with the NFL, partnered up to choose between players, coaches, personnel, and alumni the annual nominee. This award takes into consideration the demonstration of commitment to bring honor and support to the military community, each club will be in charge of selecting the nominee for the current year. The decision of nominating Jordan was based on the work he has done representing the club as well as the NFL. Jordan visited troops including their families that are currently based on South Korea during this year. He was also part of several events hosted by the Saints in New Orleans like visiting military bases along with participating in the tournaments run in the facilities for Pros vs. G.I. Joe.
The finalists for this award will be announced this next January to get all honors from the NFL on February 1, the night before the Super Bowl LIV event. A special ceremony will take place and air nationwide for two hours to grant the award to the finalists. “The 2019 ‘Salute to Service Award presented by USAA’ nominees truly deserve this moment of recognition for their strong commitment to honor and recognize our military members, veterans, and their families,” said Vice Admiral (Ret.) John Bird, USAA Senior Vice President of Military Affairs.
Last year’s recipient of this award was Ben Garland from the Atlanta Falcons, and he will now be part of the panel who will select the winner. Besides the honor, an award of $25,000 will be donated on behalf of the winner to the charity of choice to the aid organizations for the military families. On top of that other $25,000 will be donated to the charity that the winner chooses.
