Fortnite pro player banned for cheating

The 17-year-old phenom should have known better

At only 17 years old, a professional gamer has been banned for good from playing Fortnite after uploading a video that shows him cheating on the game. His name is Jarvis Kaye and he is from the UK, and is better known in the gaming world as “FaZe Jarvis.” Fortnite creator Epic Games conveyed the decision to ban him due to using an aimbot while playing online.

An aimbot is one tool used during the game that will lock a player’s crosshairs onto an enemy. The most amazing part is that on this occasion nobody had to report anything, was Kaye himself who told the world what he was doing by posting a video that, of course, was already deleted. After what happened, “FaZe Jarvis” posted an emotional video to his fans and some words to his Twitter followers. ”I’m going to take accountability for my actions and I understand completely why this has happened, I just wish I had known how severe the consequences were at the time and I would have never thought about doing it. I love all of you who still support me, this is not the end,” he said on Twitter.

The worst part is that he wasn’t even playing a qualifier event, or an official esports competition, he was just having fun against other players in a recreational online battle. During the video, he was showing his fans how to use the aimbot to cheat the game. Kaye states that he was making an instructional video and that he would have never used it for competition. “Epic Games you know I know how big of a mistake I’ve made and I’m truly like so sorry,” he said.

Fortnite is a shooter game in which competitors fight to be the last man standing, something like hunger games. On the side of Epic Games, in regard to the decision they made, they are very clear on forbidding aimbots. “We take cheating very seriously on both a legal and game development front,” Epic Games says, “We don’t want to tip our hand by talking in-depth about how we combat cheating. It is understandable given the good profit you can make out of the game. Recently Kyle Giersdorf claimed $4,3 million after taking the award home for the Fortnite Champion back in July.
