BitMEX might have just released the email addresses of all its users
The exchange reportedly allowed personal data to walk off its servers
BitMEX, an exchange for crypto derivatives, failed to keep their user’s privacy safe. An email was sent without using the blind copy and now all email addresses’ information was shared with the recipient. In an official statement that was published today November 1, BitMEX recognized the mistake.
From independent sources, the editorial team for Cointelegraph located in Japon declared that the email was received by one of their collaborators. Jake Chervinsky, a lawyer focused on crypto matters, tweeted his reaction today November 1. He basically said that this is a very naive way to make a shocking mistake that gives the company an air of ineptitude. It was pointed out to BitMEX by several concerned users, that now the owners of these accounts are now exposed to potential hackers that can get a hold of this information to gain account access.
“Our team has acted immediately to contain the issue and we are taking steps to understand the extent of the impact. Rest assured that we are doing everything we can to identify the root cause of the fault and we will be in touch with any users affected by the issue,” shared BitMEX in a public statement. It also stated that their user’s security is the utmost priority.
The news arrived everywhere in the crypto community and reactions started to show from different sources. Following news on the subject, crypto exchange Binance requested to all their customers who currently possess an account in both Binance and BitMex to immediately change their account information at risk.
