Taco Bell and MGM partner up for World Series gambling
The annual competition makes its seventh appearance in a row
Over the past six years, Taco Bell has sponsored some gambling action when the World Series rolled around. Now that sports gambling is really picking up in the US, the latest installment of the annual competitions will almost certainly see more participation than ever. Taco Bell is back again with its baseball-centered taco bets, teaming up with BetMGM to make them happen.
Sports (and taco) fans can bet real money on the player they believe will steal the first base during the World Series. That player will become the “Taco Hero” and the Mexican food-based fast-food company explains, “When it comes to the World Series, rooting for that first stolen base and rejoicing for free tacos has really become the game within the game. So, teaming up with BetMGM to give fans a whole new way to participate in ‘Steal A Base, Steal A Taco’ felt like a natural extension for us. We can’t wait to see fans engage with the program like never before and, of course, we’re excited to see if their predictions come true.”
Unfortunately, the action isn’t yet available everywhere – perhaps next year. Currently, wagers can be placed in New Jersey, Mississippi or Nevada, as well as through the BetMGM app in New Jersey and the playMGM app in Nevada. BetMGM has started to post prop bets and oddsmakers use historical data to post real odds. As the postseason progresses, with not much time left after the Washington Nationals secured their spot in the World Series, odds and wagers will be updated.
BetMGM is operated by Roar Digital. The company’s chief marketing officer, Matt Prevost, adds, “The 2019 World Series is certain to feature some of baseball’s biggest stars and most recognized teams, along with millions of hungry baseball fans. Taco Bell’s ‘Steal a Base, Steal a Taco’ promotion is one of the most talked about and engaging initiatives in all of sports, and we are thrilled to be taking part in this fun and interactive experience via our BetMGM app as well as at participating MGM Resorts.”
