OWL 2019 ends with a surprise victory
The Overwatch League 2019 Grand Finals finds a winner after a desperate battle
The Overwatch League (OWL) 2019 Grand Finals were all set to be a huge showdown between two eSports teams that have had an incredible season. It didn’t disappoint, either. The Vancouver Titans and the San Francisco Shock, both of which have gone head-to-head several times in Season 2 and were about even in victories, brought the energy to the competition and nothing was left behind. As they say, there can be only one, though, and the winner was not who many had expected, but, rather, who has fought hardest to get where it is.
The Shock came into the Grand Finals after having to rise from the loser’s bracket. It went undefeated, culminating in a 4-0 victory over the Titans to secure the championship. The team remained very loose and versatile throughout the competition, adapting quickly to whatever the Titans threw their way. The Shock showed up ready to win and wasn’t going to stop until it had secured the victory.
When it came down to it, the Titans simply found themselves going up against an enemy that was better prepared and ready to make a statement. The Titans struggled throughout the competition to find their rhythm, and this was evident as the losses kept on coming.
There’s always next season. The Titans will certainly be back, ready to find revenge. It has already shown itself to be a strong team and that won’t change anytime soon. The group will work on its strategies and be ready to dominate come next season.
