Mike and Ike start to sponsor eSports
The sweets company will be an official partner of the National Championship Series next year
An amateur eSports tournament just picked up a sweet sponsor. Mike & Ike, the candy brand owned by Just Born, Inc., has teamed up with Nerd Street Gamers to sponsor next year’s National Championship Series (NCS). In addition to a prize pool of $30,000, players will also be competing for the honor of becoming the Mike & Ike Player of the Month award.
The NCS is held across ten cities in the US and Mike & Ike will be featured prominently at all of the events. In addition to the award, it will also see its logo on all broadcasts and social media throughout the series. The monetary details of the agreement weren’t released, but the move follows a constant stream of companies that are getting onboard the eSports train.
The CEO of Nerd Street Gamers, John Fazio, said of the partnership, “MIKE AND IKE® is a vibrant and dynamic candy brand that a lot of us gamers grew up on, and still continue to enjoy. We are excited to have them on board in supporting our mission in bringing esports to all gamers across the country.”
Just Born’s senior manager of consumer engagement, Deb Turoczy, ads, “Enjoying and sharing MIKE AND IKE® candy while playing video games often goes hand in hand, so we are excited to be the Official Partner of the National Championship Series, as it strengthens our presence in the gaming and esports community. The grass roots nature of the National Championship Series allows for everyday gamers to participate and grow their skillset, allowing MIKE AND IKE® to connect with gamers at every level.”
