Jacksonville Jaguars @ Carolina Panthers Betting Breakdown
With the Gardner Minshew hype continuing to reach a fever pitch after another gutty win against a reeling (and still winless) Denver Broncos team, the Jaguars will head into Carolina to face off against a Panthers team that’s knocked off two straight Ws since Kyle Allen took over for Cam Newton at quarterback. Most importantly, however, the Jags will likely continue to be without all-pro corner Jalen Ramsey who has been standing firm behind his trade demand and failed to take the field this past weekend. Without him, Jacksonville’s secondary – which has given up the 11th fewest yards per passing attempt so far this season – becomes infinitely more exploitable and should allow Allen to have the same kind of high-efficiency success he had last week going 24/34 for 232 yards. Meanwhile the Panthers have limited opponents to just 4.4 yards per pass attempt over the first quarter of the season, the single lowest number of any team in the league, outdoing defensive heavyweights New England and Buffalo by a full half-yard per play. However, if Carolina wants to make it three in a row, they’ll need to prevent Leonard Fournette from having another monster game and improve on their bottom 5 yards per play defense vs the run. But without much of a passing threat to distract them, I expect the Panthers to focus in on stopping the run and making Minshew beat them through the air while trying to keep up with the yards machine that is Christian McCaffrey. And with the game on their home field and Jacksonville playing its second consecutive road-game after dealing with the Denver elevation last week, I like the Panthers chances to come out ahead in this one and deny the inexperienced Jaguars from getting a third straight win.
