Inaugural Gulf Coast Poker Awards announced
The induction will be held in November
While the Global Poker Awards may be the norm in gauging poker players around the world, a new organization looks to recognize outstanding players in the US; specifically, those that belong to the Gulf Coast area. The Gulf Coast Poker Awards has been established to honor players from the south who have set themselves apart over the last 12 months and will see the inaugural induction ceremony held next month.
The awards encompass eight different categories and nominees are chosen among players who reside from east Texas to Arkansas, east to Tennessee and North Carolina and everything to the south. The winners are selected from nominations made by tournament directors, players and poker staff and media and the awards will be presented on November 11 at the Poker Gras tournament at Harrah’s New Orleans during its Main Event.
The nominees for the inaugural group include Maurice Hawkins, Philip Hui, Yousef Salah, Blake Whittington, TK Miles, Michael Lech, Sean Winter and Hamid Izadi for the Player of the Year (POY) category. The Breakout POY list is comprised of Josh Thibodaux, Yousef Saleh, David Jackson, Trace Henderson, Hui and Whittington. Izadi also made the Senior of the Year list, as did Robbie Matthews, Judge Leo Boothe, Jerry Giroir and Stephen Bierman. There will also be awards for the Most Consistent Tournament Player, the Female POY and the Cash Game POY.
In addition there are two other categories for non-players. These include TD/Floor/Dealer/Industry contributor of the year and the Content Provider, which covers those providing blogs, vlogs, podcasts and other similar content for the poker industry.
