Chicago Bears vs Oakland Raiders Betting Breakdown
In the first of two games taking place across the pond, the Chicago Bears and Oakland Raiders will be travelling to London England this week to face off in a game that has more story-lines than the final season of Downton Abbey (my wife made my write that “joke”). Not only will British football fans get to witness one of the best defenses in the NFL go to work, but it will be coming on the heels of an injury to Bears starting quarterback Mitch Turbisky and the season-long suspension of Raiders linebackers Vontaze Burflict. The suspension – which was handed down by the commissioners office earlier this week thanks to a helmet-to-helmet hit on Colts’ TE Jack Doyle and ‘repeated violations of unnecessary roughness rules’ – is the single longest suspension for an on-field act in NFL history and one that puts an already suspect Raiders defense – who have given up the 8th most passing yards per play of any team so far this season – in an even tougher situation. The only silver lining for Raiders fans is that their opponents – the Chicago Bears – have put up the 3rd fewest offensive yard per play through the first 4 weeks of action, though considering they’ve faced a collection of exceptionally strong defenses in Green Bay, Denver, and Minnesota, that is not all that surprising and most likely not indicative of the amount of success they’ll be able to find against an infinitely weaker Raiders secondary. So regardless of whether Trubisky – who suffered a dislocated shoulder in a winning effort against the Vikings this past weekend – plays or not (the latest injury reports state he’s extremely unlikely to), I like Chicago to put up just enough points to come out on top while their defense suffocates its fifth consecutive opponent this season.
