Raiders and Twitch connect in new partnership
The Twitch Lounge is coming to Allegiant Stadium
As the Oakland Raiders start to get ready for their move to Las Vegas, they have already begun to make pivotal connections to become a major force in Sin City. One of these was just announced and involves the popular eSports streaming platform Twitch. The Raiders and Twitch are now partners and the Raiders’ new home in Vegas, Allegiant Stadium, is going to be decked out with its very own Twitch-branded lounge.
Twitch announced the new arrangement in a press release this week, adding that the new lounge will be complete with streaming stations, eSports tournaments and viewing screens and that it would also be home to future Twitch events. It did not, however, specify the nature of those events.
The Raiders have been preparing to move to Vegas for the past two years, after having called Oakland home since 1995. The move comes after the team and Oakland couldn’t come to terms on how to maintain the team’s stadium, RingCentral Coliseum, and who should pay for its upkeep.
The new partnership is another example of a continued merge between gaming and eSports. The LA Rams are tied to the Overwatch League, through the team’s owner, Stan Kroenke, and the NBA has its own league in NBA 2K.
Las Vegas is rapidly becoming a hub for eSports, shedding some of its traditional casino gambling appearance. Las Vegas Sands and The Madison Square Garden Company are building The Sphere, which will be a futuristic, multipurpose venue that will be able to host eSports events, concerts and more.
