Pechanga casino patron beaten, killed during robbery
One of the suspects is the sister of an NBA superstar
It appears that Kimesha Williams didn’t have any of her brother’s good fortune rub off on her.
Williams is the sister to Kawhi Leonard, a two-time NBA champ, a two-time NBA Finals MVP and a basketball record-setter who just got picked up by the LA Clippers. Williams is a two-bit criminal and murder who just got picked up by the cops. She, along with a cohort, attacked an 84-year-old gambler at the Pechanga Casino & Resort in California and are now being held for theft and murder.
On August 31, Afaf Anis Assad was found unconscious in a bathroom at the casino, bleeding from the brain, at around 8 AM. She was immediately taken to a hospital but later died from her injuries. As the casino and police began to investigate what had happened, they used the casino’s myriad of cameras to watch as two suspects, later identified as Williams and Candace Townsel, entered the bathroom after Assad, only to exit four minutes later.
Both could face first-degree murder charges because of the crime. Even though there was no weapon, such as a gun or a knife, used in the attack, California law states that first-degree murder can be charged if a robbery results in death. If prosecutors decide that the degree is warranted, the duo is looking at anywhere from 25 years to life behind bars.
Williams wasn’t allowed to be let out on bail. The judge presiding over her court appearance decided that, because of her ties to Leonard and his money, she is considered a flight risk and that it would be better to keep her locked up. Perhaps she’ll take up basketball while in prison.
