Xbox Live suffers severe outage
The gaming platform went dark for several hours on Tuesday
Video game fans accustomed to interacting with Xbox Live were forced to suffer from withdrawal for a few hours yesterday. The platform suffered a major outage, with gamers repeatedly receiving errors every time they tried to launch a game. After a little more than four hours, the problem was apparently fixed, but not before the gamers were forced to recover from their anxiety attacks.
The issue reportedly began at around 5 PM Eastern Time and wasn’t rectified until 9 PM. With a continuous shift away from hard-copy games and toward digital platforms, a four-hour outage could seem like an eternity. However, at 9:22 PM, the issue was found to not be completely resolved and Xbox Live’s support team posted a tweet that it was working on the problem, stating, “We’ve heard from our investigative teams that there has been improvement, however things are still being worked on.”
At 11:58 PM, Xbox still couldn’t fully figure out the problem. A new tweet stated that services were still limited and that connection to the platform was intermittent. It wasn’t until almost 3 AM this morning that Xbox Live was able to proudly state, “Our engineers have confirmed that purchased content should be accessible once again.”
Outages are, unfortunately going to happen. We have to deal with power outages, Internet outages, phone service outages and even guacamole outages. However, for a platform that is backed by a tech giant such as Microsoft, ten hours of downtime seems to push the envelope of what should be acceptable.
