Roblox now more popular than Fortnite, Minecraft
The game now has over 100 million users each month
Fortnite may have seen the greatest explosion in popularity among virtually all video game titles, but its time at the top has apparently begun to falter. Even Minecraft has lost part of its market share. According to the most recent data, the Epic Games title is no longer the first option among gamers – that position is now owned by Roblox.
Roblox has reportedly now reached more than 100 million users each month – Minecraft hit its peak at 91 million in March. There is some discrepancy about the actual numbers, though, because Fortnite was reported to have 78.3 million monthly users last September – the last month official data was released – and Epic says it has 250 million registered Fortnite players. However, registered players and regular monthly players don’t necessarily have to add up.
Roblox has quickly become a favorite among the younger generation. It’s a mix of a massive multiple online (MMO) game and a game creation tool. It features over 50 million “mini-games” inside the matrix, most of which have been created by younger players.
40% of all Roblox players are female, according to its creator, also called Roblox. It leans more toward group play, which makes it a more popular option to continue to draw kids back to the game. It was first developed in 2004, when a beta version was introduced, and officially released in 2006. However, it wasn’t until almost 13 years later that it would start to find widespread acceptance.
