LA Rams releases “sports gambling” app
Rams Pick’em could be a precursor to something much bigger
While most major sports organizations haven’t exactly been behind the legalization of sports gambling unless they received a cut, individual teams are more willing to embrace the future. The Washington Redskins introduced a sports gambling platform for its preseason games last week and another team is now getting in on the action, as well. The LA Rams are launching a platform called Rams Pick’em that could be setting the stage for something much larger.
Rams Pick’em is a free-to-play app that gives fans the chance to make real-time predictions about plays in the game. It offers fans the opportunity to “test their football instincts and earn points for every prediction they get right” and rewards winners with game tickets, pregame field passes, merchandise and more.
LA Rams VP of Media Marissa Daly states in a press release, “We are thrilled to bring our fans closer to the action with an engaging second-screen experience. We feel that our free-to-play predictions game will be a fun way for fans to compete against one another while watching their Rams compete on the field.”
The platform is available to anyone 18 years old or older in all states except New York, Rhode Island and Florida. While Rams Pick’em isn’t a gambling app and doesn’t see money change hands, it isn’t difficult to anticipate that it is designed to boost enthusiasm for sports wagers and that the Rams are planning on rolling out a more robust version of the application sometime in the next couple of years.
