3 winners from NFL Preseason Week 1
Our recent article profiled losers from Week 1 of the NFL Preseason, but now we’re being more positive with a look at who did well!
After getting called this year’s worst Superbowl bet by Jeopardy champ (and sports betting aficionado) James Holzhauer, and hearing pundits call them overrated, Cleveland drubbed (31-10) Washington in Week 1.
The Redskins are only predicted to win 6.5 games this year at the Americas Cardroom sportsbook, and preseason games are often times meaningless. However, this was a first good step for Baker Mayfield and company as they try to live up to the hype.
New York Giants
Trust me, I’m just as surprised to be writing this as you are to be reading it. But after trading Odell Beckham Jr. and seemingly reaching in the draft for quarterback Daniel Jones, this team needed some good publicity.
Jones looked like the quarterback of the future, going 5-of-5 for 67 yards and a touchdown in a 31-22 win over the rival Jets. And while Eli Manning remains the clear QB1 on the depth-chart, fans at least have something to look forward when he inevitably struggles.
The new-look Steelers got off to a strong start with a Week 1 preseason win (30-28) over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger watched from the bench.
The Steelers have a much different feel this year with running back Le’Veon Bell and receiver Antonio Brown no longer on the roster. While they are among the most talented players in the league, I think Pittsburgh could have “addition by subtraction” with far fewer off-the-field distractions.
