3 losers from NFL Preseason Week 1
With the National Football League finally back in action after a long summer, it’s time to start things off in true fan fashion by looking at the biggest losers during Week 1 of the preseason.
New York Jets
After all the hype surrounding the Jets as the best football team in New York, they started out the preseason by getting their butts kicked by their crosstown rivals Giants. That’s the same Giants team who the Americas Cardroom sportsbook has the Over/Under at just six wins this year.
Although a Week 1 preseason loss carries very little meaning, the Jets most definitely did not look like the team their fans were hoping to see on the field after so many years of futility.
The Lions expectations weren’t all that high to begin with – with the ACR sportsbook having their Over/Under at 6.5 wins, but losing 31-3 in your first preseason game at home is certainly not a good sign.
Granted, Detroit was playing against the defending champion Patriots, but that’s the same team they beat handily (26-10) in regular season last year. Coach Matt Patricia is in his second year and it could be his last with a disastrous season.
Although Oakland is the only team on this list to actually win their first preseason game (14-3 over the Los Angeles Rams), the Raiders inclusion has more to do with their happenings off the field.
Star offseason acquisition Antonio Brown has already become a massive distraction thanks to frostbitten feet and a wild retirement threat. The team is getting very good television ratings on the Hard Knocks reality show, but that could be their most impressive feat of the season.
