William Hill launches first sportsbook in New Mexico
The sportsbooks becomes the third in the state
William Hill (WH) is determined to become a major sports gambling force in the US. This could be partially due to the fact that its home base, the UK, has started to come down hard on all forms of gambling and the company wants to be prepared for the future. Regardless of the reasons, WH, which now operates 113 sportsbooks in the country, is rapidly becoming entrenched in the sports gambling industry across the US and has now launched its first retail sportsbook in New Mexico.
The sports gambling operation is hosted by the Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort and Casino in Mescalero. The grand opening was held late last week, receiving participation by New Mexico native and former UFC champ Holly Holm. Holm placed one of the first bets – a $100 wager on the UFC 240 match between Cris Cyborg and Felicia Spencer. Holm proved to be on the money with the wager, as Cyborg was given the bout in Round Three.
David Grolman, WH’s president of retail, said about the new endeavor, “Working with the Mescalero Apache Tribe and the National Indian Gaming Commission on this partnership agreement was important to us. Inn of the Mountain Gods is one of the premier resorts and casinos in the southwest and together we plan to bring a first-class experience to sports fans in the region.”
WH is going to build upon its success in other states such as New Jersey, Nevada, Mississippi, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. It has already signed a major deal with Eldorado to operate the casino operator’s sportsbooks and is preparing to launch two in Iowa under the company’s guidance, as well as a third under Polk County’s guidance. Polk County runs the Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino.
