Step Your Way to Glory
As primarily a SNG player, I’ve always liked Step tournaments. Had I primarily been a tournament player, I would have loved them! Because as valuable as it was for me to get into a large tournament at a fraction of the price, when tournament-play is your passion, when you could imagine nothing better than starting out with literally nothing and grinding out a huge tournament score over the course of a couple of days or even weeks, its value is exponential.
That’s why, with the $2650 Venom Tournament approaching, using the Step 1s that run daily as freerolls and working your way up the ladder is an incredibly bankroll-efficient way to take a shot at the first online poker event of the post-WSOP season.
There’s a bunch of stuff I like about Steps tournaments in general, but by far the most profitable aspect of them is that just like in low-stake SNGs, many players in the first few levels treat the games as a way to blow off steam, a place where they can make ‘creative’ plays and not worry about lighting their equity on fire; equity we will happily accept our fair-share of.
The time commitment is both low and flexible, the win rate is as high as 1 in every 2.75, and each On-Demand tournament has a cash prize to soften the pain of the bubble. With that kind of value, it just makes sense to add a table or two to your regular tournament or cash-game schedule and take a low-risk shot at a life-changing score.
Why wouldn’t you?
