Fortnite World Cup right around the corner
The competition will be held next week in New York
It may have been designed as a free-to-play game and a way to pass the time, but Fortnite has turned into a worldwide sensation. It is a multimillion-dollar moneymaker for Epic Games and has a complete industry built around it. It has also become one of the most popular eSports competitions and the next “Best Fortnite Player in the World” will be decided at the upcoming Fortnite World Cup to be held in New York next week.
The tournament begins on July 26 and will wrap up on July 28 after crowning a winner. It’s open to all Fortnite players everywhere, provided they’re at least 14 years old. The competition offers a massive $30 million prize pool, which rivals that of many well-known tournaments in different sports.
The winners of the solo and duo tournaments will take home $3 million each; second-place winners and teams will earn $2.25 million. Third-place finishers pick up $1.8 million and fourth-place winners take home $1.5 million. Any of the remaining top spots will earn at least $1 million and the smallest prize to be awarded is still up there at $50,000.
Coverage of the games will kick off at 11 AM Eastern Time through the official channels of Epic Games. The finals will also be streamed via Twitch and YouTube, which is good news for those who can’t travel to New York to witness the action in person. Tickets are already sold out, but resellers like StubHub have a few available. Prices vary greatly, but for those who want to be as close to the action as possible, be prepared to spend $1,000-$2,000.
