Final team for International 2019 announced
Forward Gaming wraps up the field after wins at the regional qualifiers
Valve is preparing for the largest Dota 2 event of the year, scheduled to take place at the Mercedes Benz Arena in Shanghai, China next month. 18 teams are set to compete and the final team has now been announced. After a strong performance during the regional qualifiers, Forward Gaming is packing its bags and preparing to battle it out in Dota 2 during the International 2019 tournament in August.
As the qualifiers got underway, all eyes were already on Forward Gaming. The team was the heavy favorite to win. During the series, it proved why, losing only one game throughout the action. That loss came during the Grand Finals when it took on J.Storm, but the defeat only gave Forward more incentive and ambition, and wiped out the competition in the next three games to win the series. To indicate how dominating the team was, it carried an advantage of a minimum of 1,000 net worth per minute in each of the final three games.
Forward logged 113 kills in the final three games, 81 of which were attributed to Jinjun “Sneyking” Wu. J.Storm wasn’t ever able to find its rhythm and suffered greatly because of it.
If this year is anything like last year, Forward is in a good position to excel at the International 2019. Four of the team’s players were among the top eight last year, which means that the team has a reputation to live up to.
That could be part of the reason the prize pool for The International 2019 is already more than $28 million and continues to grow with about a month before the tournament kicks off. Forward will have a lot of strong competition, though, as it has to go up against teams like Team Secret, Virtus Pro, Evil Geniuses, ViCi Gaming, Fnatic, Team Liquid, OG, TNC Predator, Alliance, Infamous, RNG and Chaos, among others.
